A Beacon of Community:

Built in 1927, the Halifax Forum initially served as a multipurpose facility for various community events. Its central location in the West End quickly made it a popular gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. The Forum’s grand design, featuring a spacious auditorium and exhibition hall, provided a versatile space for a myriad of activities, including concerts, trade shows, sporting events, and even political rallies.

The Venue’s Evolution:

Over the years, the Halifax Forum underwent several transformations to meet the changing needs of the community. In the 1950s, an indoor ice rink was added, becoming a vital hub for hockey enthusiasts in Halifax. This rink, known as the Civic Arena, hosted countless games, figure skating competitions, and public skating sessions, creating lasting memories for generations of residents.

Preserving History:

As time marched on, the Halifax Forum began to show signs of age. In response, a significant renovation project was undertaken in the 1990s, revitalizing the venue and preserving its historic charm. The refurbishment ensured that the Forum continued to serve as a hub for cultural, recreational, and community activities while honoring its storied past.

A Hub for Sports and Entertainment:

Today, the Halifax Forum remains a vibrant community center, hosting an array of events throughout the year. The Civic Arena continues to be a focal point for hockey enthusiasts, hosting local leagues, tournaments, and high-profile games. Additionally, the Forum boasts a range of facilities, including meeting rooms, banquet halls, and exhibition spaces, catering to diverse community needs.

The Future of The Forum

Halifax Town Council was in the process of working on a redevelopment plan for the Halifax Forum but due to inflation, budget cuts, and other municipal projects taking precedent those plans have been shelved for now. However, a staff report from 2021 has the project slated for redevelopment at some point in the future
